It's becoming increasingly hard to find products that are made in Australian. And, whilst more & more Australian brands are looking to offshore manufacturing we want to shift our direction the other way by increasing our Australian production chain.
At Seagrass Design we take great care in the garments we create & the way they are made. Since day one, every garment we’ve put together has been designed & made by us & our amazing team of highly skilled local dressmakers, right here in Tasmania.

Ethics & Sustainability
We love the way this style of production allows us to work 'hands on' with our pattern makers and seamstresses to create each garment on demand, with high attention to detail. Making garments on demand also allow us to offer customisation options for our customers, whilst additionally helping us to minimise our fabric wastage & ensure each length of fabric is used as sustainably as possible.
Over the past year we have been working behind the scenes sourcing, sampling & testing some amazing locally manufactured fabrics. The number one feature we’ve sought & successfully found is a fabric that not only looks and feels fabulous to wear, but also features naturally renewable and/or certified recycled materials. This fabric is both comfortable & durable to ensure you get the most wear out of every piece. We feel the most sustainable garment you can wear is the one which is made to last.

Manufactured, printed & sewn in Australia
Introducing our first fully fledged Australian made fabric. Our latest release 'Mermaid' print has been created using a beautiful cotton jersey fabric which was manufactured in Queensland by TFS Australia. TFS are one of the last remaining textile manufacturers in Australia, who share our passion for ethical & sustainable production.
For the printing we've teamed up with Left Bank Art Group, who are also based in QLD. Left Bank use a state of the art Kornit Preston Max, the most advanced digital pigment printer available in Australia. This cutting-edge technology delivers vibrant, durable, superior quality prints whilst maintaining sustainability with an eco-friendly, waterless process.
The garments are finally then cut ,sewn and finished by our fabulous team of local seamstresses here in Tasmania, with all of the love & care that you've come to expect from Seagrass Design over many years.
We are extremely excited to share with you this gorgeous new fabric, as we transition into more & more Australian made collections.

Whilst this is all very exciting we also need to be conscious & transparent that there will be price increases for our Australian made fabrics . This is unavoidable, as quite simply the costs associated with Australian made products are higher across the board. But, we'll be sure to keep these price rises to the absolute minimum.
Over the coming months we look forward to sharing more truly Australian made collections. So stay tuned for more of the good stuff real soon!!
How important is Australian made to you? Would you be happy to pay more for garments that have been designed, manufactured, printed & sewn in Australia?
